About this object

Squat stone pot with flat base, shoulders, separate flat rim and matching lid. Inside the pot is a lump of kohl (stibnite) and a ball of textile plugging shut the mouth of the collar piece. From Abydos grave 416 A'07.

Sold at Sotheby's 6 July1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1076: "Three kohl-vases, with lids and lips seperate from the body of the vase; 2 in. to 2 1/8 in. high: 12th Dynasty; found in Tombs 108 and 416 At Abydos in 1909 and 1907".
