About this object

This is a sculpture carved with a series of human feet, inside some of which is an inscription in Greek. The object was later rounded in the shape of the base of a pillar.

The inscription is in the form of an incised outline of a human foot, each inscribed with a name. It is likely to have been erected by adolescent males, and was plausibly originally erected in the Gymnasium at Cyzicus.
