About this object

Ivory panel fragment with bas-relief decoration standing clear of plain frame. Representation of Nereid with a horn in her hair, arrows carved on breasts, stomach and thigh, seated in the water. She holds a piece of fruit in her left hand; further such fruit is in a basket above at the left. Two other figures survive only in their legs: a horse and a man, with drapery. Reverse scored with close horizontal lines and long crosses (XXX). Damaged top right and bottom left and severely damaged centre left. The denouement of a scene composed of at least one further panel to the left.
