Lid of ash chest of Hermes (dedicated by A. Plautius Gallus). The lid is shaped like a roof and it is more complex in shape than it usual. It has two ridges instead of one and the ridges cross at right angles in the centre, creating four pediments, one for each face. There is a tile pattern decoration in low relief. In the front pediment there is a wreath with fluttering taeniae (ribbons). The wreath is probably a laurel. In both pediments on the sides there ia single burning torch lying horizontally with the flame towards the front. The lid is included in the illustration of the ash chest in the Monumenta Matthaeiana.
