William Colley

He underwent RAF training in Liverpool after the Museum had been blitz-ed and lost so many specimens. He spent approx 1 year in Darfur, Sudan, with the RAF, followed by civilian work in Kenya & Tanzania (1948-64).

William sent some “herptile” specimens to Liverpool Museum, Museum of Natural History (London) and bat specimens to a Dr Harrison (probably in the UK, 1950s). He knew C J P Ionides, who collected majority of E African snakes listed on the web for your collection. Ionides (AKA The Snakeman) then encouraged him to him send specimens on to The Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) at Harvard University.

Bill has continues as member of the East Africa Natural History Society & The British Herpetological Society
