About this object

Elegantly designed and painted antelope head pieces were performed at funerals and in honour of the ancestors by Kurumba masked dancers in Mali and Burkina Faso. Many were made in the 1960s for sale to European collectors. This example was probably made for sale, because it shows no sign of use or wear.
