About this object

Two circular tins with flattened, domed lids, covered with a bright blue enamel, on to which is enamelled the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism, in yellows, oranges and pinks, along with green foliage. At the centre of each lid is a green-yellow disc containing a red 'shou' symbol of good luck, surrounding this is the victory banner and two fish, in between these two Buddhist Emblems are elaborate lotuses.

    List of Curios No 23: Per Palhese on 6th January 1913. A pair of Tibetan luncheon tins. Blue enamel on copper representing pictures of flowers, fruits, tashi, Tagye etc. A good deal broken in transit from Lhasa. Presented to me by the Lon-chens when my baby (Arthur) was born. Used by Tibetans as fruit dishes, also for serving picnic lunches etc. Made in China and rare in Tibet.
