About this object

A block printed pecha or Tibetan manuscript. A copy of the biography of the third Dalai Lama bSod nams rGya tsho [Sonam Gyatsho] by the fifth Dalai Lama, ngag dbang blo bzang rgya mtsho [Ngawang Lobzang Gyatso]. The manuscript has 109 folios, printed on daphne bark paper, there are line drawings of Lokeśvara on the left and Srong btsan sGam po on the right of folio 1. The four manuscripts 103a, 103b, 103c, 103d all seem to have previously been wrapped and supported together with a single pair of book covers.

Curator's note: other copies can be found in the Tibetan Book Resource Center, TBRC: W27927 Manuscripts 103a-d were kept together by Bell and only one pair of book covers and ties (50.31.103e and f) is associated with 50.31.103a-d. A paper label in Bell's writing is associated with this pecha (although is stored with 50.31.102a), the text reads, 'A12 Gendün Truppa // A14 Sönam Gyatso // A19 Butön Rimpoche (but other copy is correctly indexed) // Barmiak 14 Story of cuckoo'.
