Tashi Namgyal

11th Chogyal or King of Sikkim

Tashi Namgyal was the 11th Chogyal of Sikkim, succeeding his half brother Sidkyong Tulku Namgyal, who had ruled from February to December in 1914. Tashi Namgyal would rule Sikkim until his own death in 1963. During his reign he looked to promote stronger ties between Sikkim, Tibet and India and was a strong advocate for closer links with India.

He married Kunzang Dechen, who can be seen with him in the installation photograph (50.31.136) and they had three sons and three daughters together.
