About this object

Bell metal statue of Historical Buddha. Buddha shown seated in yogic, meditational pose with left hand, palm down, shown reaching for earth in earth-witnessing or bhumisparsa mudra. Right hand in rests of lap empty. Buddha's patchwork robe highlighted with incised decoration and pleating inbetween legs. Hair has been left without gilt. Buddha sits on a double lotus pedestal or throne. Base still has cover, decorated with double dorje and contents are still in place, although base has been forced open in the past.
