Langley Park Museum

Sold Far Eastern objects to Liverpool

Langley Park Museum, as the private collection of Sir Langley, was in 1956 in the process of being taken over by the Buckinghamshire County Council. It was decided that the collection should be sold, and the sale to Liverpool was coordinated by the Honorary Curator of the collection, Mr. T A Hume. Langley's collection was, according to the history file, made at the end of the nineteenth century by Sir Langley who travelled extensively in Nepal and Kashmir. It also seems to contain pieces collected from these regions by Sir Robert G Harvey. Although the collection was valued at £1200 it was purchased in 1956 by Liverpool for between £150 and £200.
