The Lady Lever Art Gallery houses a unique collection of more than 40 English commodes, including some of the greatest achievements of 18th-century London cabinet-making. This catalogue, by Lucy Wood, provides detailed physical descriptions of the pieces in the collection with analyses of construction, and a discussion of the documentary evidence for the provenance and authorship of many of the most important commodes.
"Lucy Wood's first book, the Catalogue of Commodes in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, established a new standard for museum furniture catalogues." (Adam Bowett, Apollo Magazine, December 2009)
